How to use the What County Am I In

What county is this address in?

Type a street address, a town or a zip code into the search box. The tool finds it on the map and names the county, using the US Census Bureau's county boundaries.

Louisiana has parishes and Alaska has boroughs instead of counties; the tool names those too.

Does it work outside the US?

It names the local equivalent where open map data has one, such as a county in the UK or Ireland. The outline on the map is shown for US counties.

Why does my address show the wrong county?

Near a county line, a laptop's estimated location can fall on the other side. Type your full address for an exact answer.

Is this the same as my city?

No. A county is bigger than a city, and a city can sit in more than one county.
