Turn off the state names and cities for a blank US map: just the outline of every state, ready for a geography quiz, a sales plan or a travel log. Turn them back on for a labelled map of the United States with each state's name and the major cities.
Alaska and Hawaii sit in boxes at the bottom left, as on most US maps. Alaska is shown smaller than it really is; at true scale it is more than twice the size of Texas.
The United States has 50 states and one federal district, Washington, D.C., the capital. Forty-eight states form the contiguous US between Canada and Mexico. Alaska borders Canada in the far northwest, and Hawaii is an island chain in the middle of the Pacific.
Alaska is the largest state by area and Rhode Island the smallest. Texas is the largest of the contiguous states, and California has the most people. The Census Bureau groups the states into four regions: the Northeast, the Midwest, the South and the West.
